The first reserves of rubies were discovered in Mogok of Burma since at least 600 AD. Burmese warriors possessed rubies to make them invincible in battles. Chinese noblemen adorned their armor with rubies because they believed the gem would grant protection. Emperors and royalties from ancient civilizations believed that ruby symbolizes glory, power and status, and accordingly the Kings always encrusted a Ruby to enhance their crown and sword.

Even in the Bible, there are numerous references to rubies - only wisdom and virtuous women are 'more precious than rubies'.
