Burmese Ruby and Diamond Necklace
With sixty pieces of extraordinary Burmese ruby taking the center stage of this necklace, the dazzling display of vibrant red color and sparkling fire of the diamonds combined with bold jewlery design is truly a spectacular viewing sensation.
Totalling 57.71 carats, the rubies contained in the Fai Dee Red Phoenix all hail from a magical and wondrous part of the world – Burma. A Burmese origin is typically considered the finest pedigree for rubies.
The rubies’ color is certified as ‘pigeon’s blood’ – the most desirable and valuable color variety of these exquisite gems – by a few major gemmology labs, such as Gübelin, GIA, and GRS. They also show strong red fluorescence under ultraviolet light. Such reactions are usually observed in untreated natural rubies.
With its flaming red rubies calling the fiery Phoenix and its rebirth, the design of the Fai Dee Red Phoenix Necklace is inspired by this immortal bird in Greek mythology, symbolising cyclic regeneration and claimed as vibrantly colorful with distinctive and fanciful red and yellow plumage.
Rife with metaphor that transcends the material realm, this necklace is designed and manufactured by an award-winning designer James. W. Currens. His story-telling jewelry pieces not only captures the essence of unique gemstones but is also described as ‘practical spirituality for today’s lifestyle’.
The name Faidee traces back to a history of dynamic gem dealers for over 100 years. With its highly specialised area of expertise in Burmese gemstones, it vertically integrates every step from ruby mining, cutting, to jewelry manufacturing, ensuring the highest standard in the profession.
Over billions of years, hundreds of kilometers deep in the Earth’s mantle where heat and pressure are extreme, nature gave birth to one of its most precious and beautiful creations – diamond. Humans have been appreciating its splendor and value since as early as the fourth century BC. Today, with yield of an average diamond mine being 1 part diamond to 1 million parts host rock and only 20% of it is suitable for jewelry, the market for top quality large natural diamonds remains strong.
Gem-quality diamonds are commonly assessed based on their subtle difference of size, color, clarity, and cut. The non-linear relationship of a diamond’s value and its carat weight is an indication of the rarity and desirability of large stones. The amount of a diamond’s color is rated on a scale of D-to-Z, with D being the most colorless and valuable. On the contrary, fancy-colored diamonds are rated on the saturation of colors outside this range, with reddish and bluish hues being extremely scarce. The top clarity grade is known as ‘Flawless(FL)’, which indicates an absence of a natural diamond’s unique birthmarks (known as inclusions and blemishes) – an exceptionally rare occasion. A rare diamond’s cut is planned with tremendous care and calculation to unleash its best brilliance, fire, and scintillation, often involving purposefully developed technology and the most precise workmanship.
However, there is another attribute that sets the rarest diamonds apart at atomic level: diamond type. Type IIa diamonds are the most structurally pure, with no nitrogen or boron elements in the crystal lattice. As a result, they are entirely colorless and transparent. Regarded as being the perfection. They account for only less than 2% of all natural diamonds uncovered. Many famous large diamonds, like the Cullinan, Koh-i-Noor, Lesedi La Rona, and The Lulo Rose belong to Type IIa.
With our company name derived from the English word ‘Paragon’, meaning 'a perfect diamond of over 100 carats', we strive to be your best partner in acquiring just the perfect diamond for your collection.
The Finest Jadeite
Jade, or in Chinese, ‘Yu’, has always held a very special place in the fascinating world of gemstones, with the most well-known story associated deeply with Chinese culture and history. This exquisite stone is believed to possess many virtues such as healing powers, good luck, prosperity, longevity, happiness, and love. There, jade was highly coveted by the imperial court and has always been valued more highly than any other precious stones.
Jade is found in a wide range of colors, including greens, mauve, reds, yellows, white, and black. However, the most sought-after color is a deep, richly saturated and evenly distributed emerald green, referred to as "Imperial Green", which is found nearly exclusively in the jadeite-jade (‘Fei Cui’) deposits of Myanmar (Burma).
Unlike the usual sparkle of a faceted gemstone, such jadeite is a polycrystalline aggregate with distinctively fine interlocking mineral structures which scatter and reflect the light in an even manner, resulting in an unusual glowing effect due to high translucency.
It often takes the simple forms of beads, cabochons, hoops, and bangles to displays its mesmerizing optical effect. Others are skillfully carved into characters and symbols endowing the piece and its wearer with the according symbolic powers.
At PARAQON’s Hong Kong-based office, we utilize our close ties with Chinese jadeite market resources and endeavor to bring you jadeite jewelry of outstanding beauty and upmost rarity, combining its unique characteristics of color, texture, design, and craftsmanship.
